I. How it works
- Pick a meta-promptUse the day's word or phrase as your starting point.
- Run one promptWrite it carefully, send it once, and keep the first result.
- Post the entryShare the day, exact prompt, and output. Add an after-note if useful.
Rules
1. Write once. Run once.
CoreSend one prompt once. No follow-up, reroll, or fixes. An agent can work from that prompt on its own.
2. Bring your own direction
CoreDescribe what you want in your own words. Do not provide examples or use an artist, brand, or existing work as a style shortcut.
3. Show the prompt, verbatim
Copy the exact prompt and raw output. Keep the typos. Skip anything private or harmful. An after-note is optional.
4. Any medium. No streak required.
Use text, image, audio, code, or anything else. Join for one day or all 31. Miss a day? Continue when you can.
II. What an entry looks like
Post the entry
Attach the output to the post. If it is interactive, add the live link in the first reply.
After-note —(optional)
I expected a few large shapes. It made a field of small ones. The output followed the cycle more than the contrast.

Inspired by Jakob Nielsen's usability heuristics.
IV. Keep it honest
1. Do not reroll
If you ran it again or corrected it in a follow-up, it is not a one-shot entry. Try again another day.
2. Share misses
Do not post only the best-looking results. A clear miss can show more than a safe win.
3. Use your direction
Credit your influences. Do not use someone else's name as a shortcut to their style.
V. Join in
1. Post the full entry
Put the day, prompt, and output together. Add the after-note below them if you have one.
2. Tag it
Use #oneshottober and #oneshotchallenge. Tag @oneshottober so the entry can be found and shared.
3. Ask about the prompt
When you reply, ask what surprised them or which word changed the result. Do not rank the output.
4. Start October 1
NowPost as often as you want. Miss a day? Use the next prompt. No catch-up required.
